Da Vinci SP training in Freiburg — new possibilities in oesophageal surgery

Olga Meier · ·2 min read

On 10 and 11 November 2024 I had the privilege of attending Intuitive’s da Vinci Single-Port (SP) training in Freiburg, Germany — two days of in-depth insight and hands-on experience with the da Vinci SP system.

Inspiration and hands-on practice

I am particularly grateful to Prof. Dr. Peter Grimminger for the unique inspiration around the SP system, and to Robert Breitbeck, Dipl.-Ing. (FH) for the outstanding organisation and continuous support. Noè Pozzan and Jan Ewald guided us throughout the training with exceptional hands-on instruction.

New possibilities for oesophageal surgery

The Single-Port da Vinci system opens new pathways for minimally invasive procedures on the oesophagus in complex, difficult-to-approach situations. Where multiple access points were previously required, the Single-Port approach enables a clear reduction in trocar entry sites — while preserving high surgical precision.

Preparing for the next step

The SP training is an important building block in my continuing development in robotic surgery — and at the same time the preparation for my visit to the National Cancer Center Hospital in Tokyo, where I will further deepen this expertise.

I am grateful for this learning opportunity and for the support of the Intuitive team.
